Press Release – Willamette Egg Farms Warms the Skillets to Serve Hundreds of Omelets in Support of the KGW Great Food Drive on behalf of Oregon Food Bank
First 200 donors will enjoy a free cheese omelet on March 7
CANBY, Ore. – March 5, 2012 – Willamette Egg Farms is preparing to dish up hundreds of omelets this week in support of the KGW Great Food Drive. Developed to help Oregon Food Bank raise awareness for the one in five Oregonians who struggle with hunger, the food drive’s popular omelet breakfast will be held this Wednesday, March 7 from 6 to 9 a.m. at Pioneer Courthouse Square. The first 200 to make a food or cash donation benefitting Oregon Food Bank will receive a free cheese omelet.
“Nearly 30 percent of Oregon children worry about being hungry – higher than in any other state,” says Greg Satrum, third-generation egg farmer and co-owner of Willamette Egg Farms. “That’s a startling fact, one that reminds us how important it is to support the Oregon Food Bank’s mission to eliminate hunger in Oregon. We’re proud to be able to regularly provide Oregon Food Bank with local eggs – a high quality, nutritious source of protein.”
According to Oregon Food Bank, 33 percent of the emergency food recipients are children, making it even more essential for the food bank to regularly receive food donations of substantial nutritional value. According to recent data from the USDA, eggs are low in cholesterol, high in Vitamin D and high in quality protein.
This year marks the fourth consecutive year that Willamette Egg Farms has supported the KGW Great Food Drive’s omelet breakfast. Since 2008, Willamette Egg Farms has donated more than 1.7 million eggs to Oregon Food Bank, making weekly donations of more than 8,600 eggs.
